Processing Methods

How HTV Silicone Rubber Is Processed

HTV silicone rubber is supplied as a high-consistency compound and selected according to the molding or extrusion process used by the customer. Cure conditions, compound handling and post-curing requirements vary by formulation.

Yakows supports material selection for compression molding, extrusion, transfer molding and other heat-curing production processes. For stable mass production, curing temperature and time should be taken from the selected product TDS rather than treated as one fixed value for all HTV silicone rubber.

Yakows HTV silicone rubber for high-voltage composite insulators in Russia
PROJECT 01

Russia – High-Voltage Composite Insulator Project

01
Project Background

Yakows worked with a leading Russian utility company on a high-voltage composite insulator application. The project required a silicone housing material capable of maintaining stable insulation performance under severe outdoor climatic conditions.

02
Customer Challenge

The insulators were exposed to extreme seasonal temperature fluctuations of approximately -40°C to +40°C together with long-term ultraviolet exposure. These conditions increased the risk of surface aging and reduced reliability of conventional silicone coatings over time.

03
Yakows Solution

Yakows supplied HTV silicone rubber selected for strong hydrophobicity, tracking resistance and thermal stability. Its tear resistance and elongation also supported efficient molding around complex insulator sheds and cores, helping improve processing and assembly consistency.

PROJECT RESULT

According to the customer feedback published on the Yakows site, the project achieved lower leakage-current occurrence and reduced maintenance frequency, while improving long-term reliability under harsh climatic conditions.

PROJECT 02

India – Outdoor Composite Insulator Project

01
Project Background

A major Indian transmission operator required an HTV silicone rubber solution for outdoor composite insulators installed in a demanding transmission environment with frequent moisture exposure and contamination.

02
Customer Challenge

Pollution accumulation combined with frequent wet conditions increased the risk of flashover on outdoor insulators. The customer needed a silicone material that could maintain surface hydrophobicity and reliable dielectric performance through monsoon conditions and hot-season operation.

03
Yakows Solution

Yakows HTV silicone rubber was selected for hydrophobicity transfer, tracking resistance and UV-aging stability. Its flexibility and mechanical strength supported coating and molding around complex insulator geometries, while its thermal and dielectric properties were suited to outdoor transmission service.

PROJECT RESULT

Based on the existing Yakows case description, the customer reported reduced maintenance downtime, improved flashover performance and longer insulator service life after using the HTV silicone rubber solution.
